In 2020 ARK is the designer-in-residence for Here Comes The Summer and Into The Great Wide Open. The concept focuses on the theme of 'the critical mass'. What or who makes the difference? Is the masses a frightening concept that robs us of our own free choice to be who you want to be? We investigate patterns of growth and shrinkage, how fungi and trees talk to each other, but also how micro- and macro behaviour looks like: as for example in the study by Thomas Schelling, or the chemical basis of morphogenesis, also known as the Turing method, after the mathematician Alan Turing.
The letters that form the logo are made up of ones and zeros (circles and stripes) and start binary in the colors black and white. Throughout the year, the designs for the festivals Here Comes The Summer and Into The Great Wide Open will always look a bit different and grow in different shapes and colors. Like moulds, the letters create new shapes and patterns, and thus perhaps the beginning of new movement, a new critical mass.
Due to COVID-19 both physical festivals were cancelled.
